Year 1
In Year 1 children make the transition from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage One. The Year 1 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that children have had in Reception. Learning through play continues to be an important part of the school day, and children are gradually eased into more formal learning as the year goes on so that they remain motivated and eager learners.
Learning follows the National Curriculum and we endeavour to make this learning experience as child based and integrated as possible. Children in Year 1 study five themes: Daring Dinosaurs, Terrific Toys, Under the Sea, New Life and Fantastic Fairy Tales. Subjects are linked to these themes and children are given plenty of opportunities to explore their topics in a practical and creative way.
